Guild Wars 2 Daily News: Halloween Event Won’t Extend Despite Hurricane Sandy

With Hurricane Sandy pummeling the eastern US region and bringing down power for millions, many of which are Guild Wars 2 players, it was natural to ask ArenaNet: “Could you please extend the Halloween event?”

Act 4 is scheduled to begin tomorrow so this might sound like a reasonable request given the circumstances — what’s the harm in a few days extension?

But sorry, it’s a no go. The developers said they are following a very tight timeline for rolling out its next update, which begins November 15. Extending the Halloween event will trigger a domino effect that will delay content for everyone else. That’s not to say that the decision was made lightly.

Here’s the full message from ArenaNet via community team lead Martin Kerstein:

We heard your questions about extending the Halloween event for those of you affected by Sandy. Unfortunately we cannot do that, but the reason why we can’t is exciting: We are preparing for our big November update, which will start on November 15, and there will be content that will be in the game prior to that, leading up to the event. But we also want to use this moment to remind you all that your personal safety is much more important than any computer game. If you could be affected by the storm, please listen to the authorities and take every precaution to ensure you and your loved ones are safe. Tyria will still be there once the storm is over.

We here at guildwars2pc also wish for the safety of everyone affected by the storm.
