The Guild Wars 2 Charr Race have a long and complex history here in Tyria. The vicious feline Charr were once masters of the land east of the Shiverpeaks. This was their grand ancestral home where they pranced for many centuries, unchallenged. In time the humans arrived, backed by their gods. They sought to control Tyria for themselves and soon the Charr were driven from their home, which became the land known as Ascalon. The Charr were noble warriors with great military strength and technology. They vowed not to take defeat lightly and for many centuries fought against humans to reclaim what was once theirs. Human technology and the aid of human gods trounced these efforts, yet the Charr never truly gave up.

In time the humans weakened and the Charr finally fulfilled their internal vow to recapture Ascalon. The moved through much of human civilization, leaving massive destruction in their wake. Revenge was at last unleashed on the humans and their home reclaimed. Triumph often has a great price, and for the Charr nothing could be truer. The old Legions were thrown under the control of the Flame Legion, who researched dark arts and powerful false gods. The Flame Legion seized the victory for themselves and in time civil war broke out.

The old Legions reunited and the Flame Legion shamans were overthrown from power. The Iron Legion became the new masters of Ascalon. Today they must endure war on multiple fronts. The humans, who consider the Charr nothing more than monstrous beasts, vow to fight back. Even the Flame Legion crawls in the background, plotting revenge and a glorious return to power. In Ascalon, the spirit forces of the former kingdom threaten opposition against the Charr. Despite the odds against them, the Charr are bulling forward and building a prosperous future.

Over the ruins of the human city Rin, the Charr have designed a powerful fortress and city, the Black Citadel. It is from this city that the Iron Legion exercises their control, while still working to please and uphold the rights of the other great legions throughout the realm.

The scars left by the Searing have begun to heal and the lands of Ascalon are flush with new grass and trees. The people of the Charr legions have a challenging future ahead, with foes at every corner. They have built a powerful civilization—yet many races, including their own, plot to tear down their creation. It is with a warrior spirit, superior military technology, and ruthless military efficiency that the Charr will carry on and forge a steady future. They have emerged as one of the most powerful civilizations in Tyria and with strong resolve they push forward, forming a strong legacy that will surely last for centuries to come.
